The 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference opened in Beijing, hosted by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization. The conference focused on topics such as promoting energy transformation and the construction of a new energy system through global energy interconnection, global energy interconnection and clean energy development, new power systems, cross-border power interconnection, carbon neutrality, and key frontier technologies. Over 600 representatives from more than 300 entities, including government departments, international organizations, enterprises, and research institutions from over 40 countries, attended the conference. Chairman Yan Shengjun, Vice President Li Jun, and Assistant to the Chairman Xiao Xuebing of China Tianying were invited to attend the conference.
During the conference, China Tianying showcased its world-leading gravity energy storage technology at the technology equipment exhibition. Vice President Li Jun delivered a speech on the "Advanced Gravity Energy Storage Key Technologies and Industrialization Progress of China Tianying" at the parallel thematic forum. Gravity energy storage technology is a new mechanical energy storage solution that stores and releases electricity by converting gravitational potential energy into electrical energy. This technology has several advantages, including long lifespan, high safety, low electricity cost, efficient energy conversion, flexible site selection, and low-carbon environmental characteristics. Moreover, it provides high rotational inertia to the power grid, helping the power system respond quickly to load changes during disturbances and maintain grid stability.
During the event, Xin Bao'an, Chairman of State Grid Corporation of China, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, and President of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, gained a detailed understanding of China Tianying's gravity energy storage technology, its working principles, and application scenarios. Chairman Xin expressed the hope that China Tianying would seize the opportunity of the national dual-carbon policy, fully leverage the technological innovation advantages of gravity energy storage, and promote the integration of new energy consumption on the supply side and improve grid stability on the network side. He also emphasized the effective mitigation of grid fluctuations during periods of significant load variation in the summer.
During the conference, Gong Dongchang, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd., and Zhang Xuehong, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd., also visited China Tianying's booth. They inquired about the support provided by China Tianying's gravity energy storage technology for the stable operation of local power grids under the background of new power systems and exchanged information on the implementation of gravity energy storage projects in Tibet, Shanxi, and other regions.
Since President Xi Jinping proposed the concept of "building a global energy internet" at the United Nations Development Summit on September 26, 2015, significant breakthroughs have been made in the development of the global energy interconnection with the support and participation of the United Nations, relevant national governments, international organizations, and many enterprises. It has played a positive role in promoting global energy transformation and sustainable development and has provided an important platform for constructing a new energy system. With the increasing global demand for renewable energy and energy storage, China Tianying's innovative gravity energy storage solutions are expected to play a greater role in the field of new energy.
